Make your own record player shelf2/20/2024 Occasionally they can find themselves nudged to an angle which means it requires either delicate realignment or replacement. You can also check that the stylus is perpendicular to the cartridge itself. Sometimes during transit these can become decoupled, so take a second to ensure it fits snugly and doesn’t wobble around too much. First is the cartridge which contains the record player’s all-important stylus, or needle. There are two main elements you need to consider when setting up a record player, and this applies to all decks - whether you have a budget turntable or a pro record player. Usually with record players and phono amps, you’ll find the connections to be RCA, with a separate connection for both the left and right sides, although it’s not uncommon to find 3.5mm or ¼” jack connectivity as an alternative. If not, you’ll need to connect the player to an amplifier before connecting your speakers to the amp’s outputs. If it has a dedicated phono amp output, it means the player amplifies the signal directly into your speakers, so it should be a little easier to set up. The first thing to establish is whether your record deck has a phono amplifier built into it or if you’ll require external amplification. Starting with the record player itself, you’ll have either opted for a basic plug-and-play version which requires little in the way of setup and can function straight out of the box, or you’ll perhaps have something a little more advanced which requires some extra TLC. There are many different variables at play even with just these three product groups but my advice here should be pretty universal. Worked like a charm. The gear you’ll use will vary according to your setup, but your record rig will most likely consist of a player, an amplifier and a set of speakers. On my do-over I slid in some long strips of scrap wood and a flat metal square to shield the wood. It was at this point the first time around that I learned another lesson from the school of hard knocks – protect the plywood! It’s a relatively soft wood, and the clamps leave circular craters if pressed directly into it. So take it from me & my mulligan – don’t get glue on anywhere that you're gonna see later! Step 4: Clamp it togetherĪfter the pieces are assembled and the edges are neatly aligned, the shelf needs to be clamped together while the glue dries. Imagine my deep dismay when I thought I was almost done and then my first coat of stain revealed giant, hideous blotches. It looked so bad I had to start over. That’s actually a lie – the first time I made this shelf I was not careful with the glue cleanup and learned the hard way that Gorilla Wood Glue isn’t stainable. I used a lot of glue to get a really strong hold but I was careful not to get it on ANYTHING that would be visible in the final product. It was basically like making a triple decker mayo sandwich, except simultaneously less delicious & more awesome. I pressed down on the bump-out and wiped up the excess glue that oozed out the sides before applying more glue & securing the top piece. It was important for the thickness of the bump-out wood to match that of the existing shelf so that the "sandwich buns" on top & bottom would fit snugly and hold the extension in place. For the bump out, I used a scrap piece of 1 x 10 leftover from our built-ins project, and marked my cuts so it would be 17 inches long and 7.25 inches deep (the difference between the existing shelf and the new shelf). I drew these new measurements on my plywood twice – once for the top piece and once for the bottom. All things considered, my new shelf needed to be 17 inches wide and 16 inches deep (9.25" existing + 4" bump out + 2.75" wiggle room). The width was fine for my ~16 inch wide record player, but I needed at least 4 more inches in depth to fit the base of the player, plus an extra few extra inches to comfortably open and close the dust cover. The space I had to work with was a little more than 17 inches wide and 9.25 inches deep. Step 1: Measure the existing shelf and the record player It’s just 2 pieces of wood slightly bigger than the base of the record player, sandwiched around a third piece of wood that will actually "bump-out" from the existing shelf. Here’s how I made it. That seems like a lot of supplies, but we had most of them already, and the design is super simple.

The only catch to this, however, is that the Win7 games were still compiled from until as late as Win10 v1703, which is when MS decided to ditch the rest of the older editions entirely. Win8 DP1 (.0 (winmain_win8m3.110823-1455)) saw the removal of the built-in Windows games from the edition manifest for Prerelease(ARM) this change would be later expanded through the removal of most Win7 client editions (excluding Starter(N), Professional(N) and Enterprise(N)) from the source tree during early 830x, orphaning the games entirely.Collect all of them and create a Prototype page. This was tested with the Windows 7 version. See if more of the options work in the Vista version. One of the favorites of all times is FreeCell Windows XP. Solitaires continue to be very popular and the newer versions of Windows also include a variety of these games. Probably it’s the reason why Microsoft added them to the older versions of Windows in the ’90s. This game looks exactly like the one that was installed on your old computer.įreecell Windows XP - Solitaires are great games to train your patience and attention. FreeCell XP will make you feel like you are back in time. You might even remember how the menu looked like back in the day. To achieve this, you can temporary use the seven row stacks in descending order, alternating between red and black cards, beginning with the kings.įreeCell XP - Do you remember how you discovered Solitaire games? Most probably you did when you got your first computer. Solitaire Windows XP - The object of this Solitaire is to use all the cards in the deck to build up the four suit stacks in ascending order, beginning with the aces. With every new game you’ll improve your skills and see how your score will also go up. But when you complete a sequence of one suit, from King to Ace, you get 100 points. If there are no more moves during the game, just press on the deck in the right bottom corner and new cards will be dealt.Īt the beginning you always have 500 points. At the very end place Ace on Two and the whole suite will disappear from the board. For example, place the Queen of Spades on the King of Spades, or the Five of Hearts on the Six of Hearts. The main aim is to build a sequence of the same suit in correct descending order from King to Ace. Spider Solitaire involves two packs of cards (together 52 cards). If you’re new to this game, it’s better to start from the easiest level to figure out the rules. This game has three levels of difficulty depending on the quantity of suites you use (one, two or four). The rules are really simple and it’ll take you only a few minutes to understand them if you’ve never played Spider-like games before. Many people spent hours playing this game on their old computers. The online game Spider Solitaire Windows XP is a similar version of a legendary and quite popular Solitaire game that comes free with Microsoft Windows XP operating systems. I’ve been using one for a few weeks, first off on an overnight trip to the Lakes. Filled with 800FP, goose down and covered with wind and water resistant, recycled Pertex® Quantum Pro. Eliminating excess bulk with a highly tapered design and offering exceptional warmth and protection for its weight, this bag is built for fast and light, winter mountain missions. With a temperature limit down to -7C its a great bag for 2 to 3 season use in the UK. Neutrino Pro 700 Down Sleeping Bag (5F) 580.00. It’s a premium down bag for lightweight use in the shoulder months and even winter. The Rab Neutrino 400 is the mid weight bag in Rab’s redesigned Neutrino review. The tough Pertex Quantum that is used both inside and outside the bag is made from recycled materials and is fluorocarbon-free. This results in spectacular lofting capabilities – although these could diminish a little with use. Best Down Jacket for Everyday Use: Mountain Hardwear Stretchdown. This means that once filled it travels very little distance to the consumer and is never stored packed prior to purchase. Best Overall Down Jacket: Patagonia Down Sweater. The bag is filled with European goose down, certified by the Responsible Down Standard, at Rab’s factory in the UK. The smaller size is more efficient for trapping warm air, minimising cold patches, but some women may find they are more comfortable sizing up to a men’s bag. The Neutrino collection of down sleeping. Ideal for the alpinist on big mountain bivis and hut to hut stopovers. Eliminating excess bulk while offering warmth and protection, it’s built for fast moving mountain missions. The women’s version is smaller than the men’s, which is a weight saving but if like me you are over 170cm tall it’s a tad short, and it’s also narrow at 156cm girth. Stripped back and lightweight the Neutrino embodies the Alpine spirit. Other features include a small pocket inside the hood and a snag-resistant two-way zip. When testing the Neutrino 400, I liked that the neck baffle was adjustable. There’s an improved drawcord system in the hood and neck baffle, which is now much neater and less likely to flop into the face. Helpfully, Rab includes a waterproof roll-top compression sack for this purpose, so you don't need to provide your own dry bag. This latest edition of Rab’s classic Neutrino 400 sleeping bag was launched in 2022 and appears in our guide to Best sleeping bags for hiking. Whether you need a breathable summer down jacket for a fast and light alpine. Our range also includes long padded jackets and parkas for everyday adventures, and down vests for the ultimate packable core warmth. If you’re planning a long, wet autumn ramble, then the Rab Neutrino 400 Sleeping Bag will need careful handling to keep it dry. For hiking and trekking in the depths of winter, we offer windproof and waterproof down jackets built to keep you dry and protected. In testing, the down coating seemed to perform well, although it’s worth bearing in mind that down and water are still mortal enemies (head to our down vs synthetic sleeping bag explainer for more on that). That comfort is also down to the hood and neck baffle, which work well – and indeed are both proven ‘in the field’. The 800FP down lofts very well, even after being compressed, and adds to a feeling of luxury, which is rare in a bag this light. The YKK Anti-snag zip insert works surprisingly well, spreading the two parts wide to prevent the lining snagging in the teeth, and should be standard fitment on all sleeping bags from now on. The detailing is a key part of the offering here, the small phone or battery pocket being neat, unfussy and the right size not to lose small items in it. Lutron lighting control panel2/20/2024 To ensure that the glare and heat from the sun did not become troublesome, roller blinds were programmed to provide shading during the daytime. These gave the client complete control, at the press of a button. We installed Lutron Sivoia QS roller blinds throughout the property. To ensure that the home did not become too hot or bright, we had to comprehensively manage the high levels of natural light in the building. Lutron Sivoia Shades – Integrated with Lutron Lighting Control SystemĮssential to making the home a comfortable and calm place was the need to be able to control the natural light. Additionally, this would light their route around their space for safety. This was to save the grandparents any worry about turning off the lights for economy. In addition to the use of keypads throughout the property, we used Lutron’s Radio Powr Savr occupancy sensors. We used Lutron Palladiom keypads throughout this Lutron lighting control project, as they give the sophisticated, minimalist aesthetic that the client desires. They also have large backlit buttons which make them easy for the grandparents to use. This was vitally important for the client and their ever-changing use of the rooms within the property. For example, if a room changed use from a bedroom to a study or a gym, using software, the appropriate changes could easily be made to the lighting configuration. DALI Lighting – Lutron Lighting Controlįor flexibility, DALI lighting was used as this would allow us, without re-wiring, to re-configure where necessary. Even having the ability to control the house remotely was a must with this project. We programmed commands such as “Kitchen Blinds Open” “Garden lights on”. By adding the Lutron Connect Bridge we brought ease of use to all the occupants of this home. It was vital that they felt at ease to use the system to increase their comfort and enjoyment of their home. The system had to be intuitive for use by the younger generation. At the same time, we needed to make sure that the controls were not offputting for the grandparents. For example we had to ensure that the children could operate the lighting and shading in their spaces. Consequently, we needed to fully consider the challenges for each generation in advance. It was important to the client that the technology solution would enhance the lifestyles of all members of the family. We integrated the Lutron lighting and Crestron home automation systems to provide a home that could truly cater to the needs of the whole family. We worked very closely with the client to deliver a stunning lighting control system using Lutron’s Homeworks QS products. Lutron Lighting Control Solution – Homeworks QS They also want to maximise their enjoyment of the lovely lake-side location and be respectful of the natural environment.
